BRITISH GT SEASON OPENER

Strong Pace and Early Promise for Harry George at Donington British GT Opener.

The 2025 British GT Championship roared to life at Donington Park over the weekend, marking a significant milestone for Harry George as he made his debut outing with new team, Optimum Motorsport. Partnered with co-driver Luca Hopkinson, Harry showed promising pace and composure across a weekend filled with both highs and challenges.

Positive Start in Testing

The weekend began with productive test sessions on Thursday, where Harry and Luca were able to get valuable seat time in the car and fine-tune their setup. The duo quickly gelled with the team and machine, setting a solid foundation for the days ahead.

Free Practice

Saturday marked the official start of the championship, with free practice offering the first opportunity to run against the full grid. Despite a gearbox issue hampering their session, the pairing still managed to extract impressive pace, finishing P2 in Silver . It was an early sign of the potential within the new partnership and the strength of the Optimum setup.

Rapid Qualifying Pace – Front Row Start

Thanks to an outstanding effort by the Optimum Motorsport mechanics, the gearbox issue was resolved just in time for qualifying. Harry went out first in Q1, delivering a consistent and confident run to set a best time of 1:33.077, placing the car P1 overall.

Luca followed in Q2 with a strong lap of 1:32.674, securing P3 overall and P1 in the Silver Class just 0.001 seconds off P2 in overall times. A subsequent disqualification of the provisional pole-sitting car saw the duo promoted to P2 overall, placing them on the front row for Sunday’s race.

rACe day

Race day arrived with high hopes, and after a strong warm-up session, everything looked set for a competitive debut. However, technical gremlins struck again during the formation lap, forcing Harry to bring the car into the pits. After a single lap, the team had to make the tough call to retire the car due to ongoing issues.

Looking Ahead to Silverstone

Despite the race result, there’s a strong sense of optimism within the team. Harry and Luca showed genuine pace throughout the weekend, and the chemistry within the team is already yielding results. With the car showing great speed and the team firing on all cylinders, attention now turns to the next round at Silverstone, where the pair are ready to push forward and unleash their full potential.
